Battery saver applications!!
The play store is flooded with such apps. It has become a must have app in every smartphone just because phone's battery does not live up to the user's expectations.And the user downloads a battery saver app thinking it will increase the battery life.
Give it a thought..
If android was programmed by Google...GOOGLE! Don't u think Google have the brains to optimise the software so that it saves battery rather than relying on third party apps?
No company would build a operating system without keeping battery in mind. And we are talking a company like Google here.
Most of the battery saver apps have this "optimise" button or "task killer" or some other fancy name. It kills all the apps including system process running. Now the user thinks he/she has killed all tasks and his/her phone's battery life is extended. This is false thinking. Think out of the box..now after u kill some process you might have observed that some process restarts again.
This inturn takes more processing power because the process/tasks restarts again and thereby draining battery life. Now if you keep on killing tasks every now and then this process repeats and hence decreasing your battery drastically.
Like I always say
"You are your phone's battery saver not an app"
